WHAT IS CHARITY: WATER?
In effort to pursue a new lifestyle, Scott Harrison, Founder and CEO, partnered up with a humanitarian organization which offered free medical care in the world’s poorest nations. He worked as a photojournalist, and in his work captured images of people with suffocating tumors, cleft lips, and faces eaten by bacteria from water-borne diseases. He witnessed doctors and surgeons volunteering their time to perform procedures that would change these men, women and children’s lives forever. And yet, he watched thousands of people get turned away at the end of the day. Scott’s compassion for these people initiated determination to get to the root of the problem – WATER.
In sum, Charity Water is a nonprofit organization that works with local experts and community members to find the most sustainable means to provide that community with clean water. 100% of every charitable donation goes directly to clean water projects. So far, 6,300,000 people, in 24 countries, have access to clean water because of the 20,056 water projects that have been funded by donations around the world!
WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH MY BIRTHDAY?
The CEO of the company came up with a brilliant fundraising method- birthday donations. There are three reasons why I chose to give up my birthday.
1. There is nothing that I need.
I truly do not need another gift card, jewelry, or new shade of lipstick. I have food in my kitchen, clean water in my cup, a roof over my head, clothes on my back, and a family who loves me, I am not in need. But something people DO need is clean water.
2. There are 663 Million people who live each day without clean water.
Diseases from hazardous, unsanitary water kill more people in a year than all forms of violence- including war.
Let's take a second to consider this. In essence 1 in 10 people will die due to a disease contracted by unclean water- that's twice the population of the United States.
3. I hope to encourage you to do the same.
Hopefully, this post will long outlive my birthday & encourage some of you to also realize you already have everything you need. Maybe you will donate your birthday to Charity:Water, or even another organization that could greatly benefit from your help. My hope is that by doing this, it will then inspire some of your friends to do the same… who will encourage some of theirs, also. As a result, this blog will survive past my birthday. And together, we can work on making our world a better place to live.
So, what I'm asking for is $22 for my 22nd birthday!
If I raise $400 for my birthday that means that 12 people across the globe will have clean drinking water. Access to clean water means education, income, and health- especially for women and children.
If you would like to help me out in providing clean water for 12 people you can donate to my birthday campaign here:

Would you be willing to give up a couple coffee's, that shirt you've been looking at in your favorite store, or a night out at the bars in order for people around the world to have access something that we can so easily access and often take for granted!?
