Well hey guys! As most of you know I am already home, but i never got a chance to tell y'all about my trip to Capri. So here it is:
After our incredible trip to Switzerland, Anna and I decided that we could not waste a free weekend staying in Rome. So going to Capri was a no-brainer. For years i had pinned pictures of this paradise on my Pintrest travel board, and now i had the opportunity to go. Unreal. The whole trip was just kind of on a whim. We planned very little, but somehow everything worked out perfectly. On Saturday we woke up at 4;30 to find a taxi that would take us to the Roma Termini station. Our train left at 5;30 and we left our apartment around 5am so we were feeling a little pressure to make our train. After running to the taxi stop, we found one waiting at the corner, we jumped in, and yelled "to termini!". About 15 mins. later we arrived, and at this point we were pushing 5;25 am. We grabbed our backpacks, handed the cab driver a wad of Euros, and sprinted to our terminal. Lucky for us we made it. It was a two hour ride to Napoli where we then caught another train to Sorrento. Sorrento was perfect. The town is know for the giant lemons it grows and great sea food; I tasted both of course. After exploring the town for awhile Anna and I went to check into our hostel. We decided to stay in Sorrento 1. because it was cheaper than Capri, and 2. there are no hostels available anywhere else. We booked our stay at a place called Campogaio Santafortunata, mostly because it was cheap, but also it was a campsite. We payed 14 euros for a one night stay in a small, un-airconditioned tent. But we loved it, and so did the lizards. It was an experience, that is for sure.
From Sorrento you need to take a 30 min. ferry ride to actually get to the Island of Capri. We bought our tickets and then shared a margherita pizza as we waited for our ride to our tropical wonderland. Soon after lunch our ferry arrived and we were off. We were in the middle of the sea, surrounded by beauty; Mount Vesuvius on one side, and Capri on the other. Marveling at this unfamiliar world made the ride relatively short, and we were on capri before we knew it. With no plans, but high hopes for fun adventures, Anna and i set out on a mission to find an excursion that would be worth our while. The first offer we got was from a persistent, baldheaded man that argued his excursion was the best on the island. So, kinda like the whole trip, we agreed on a whim. We paid 120 euros for a two hour private boat ride around Capri. And let me tell you, it was well worth 120 Euros. Here's how it went: we sunbathed on the front of the boat and sipped our drinks in bewilderment of The Lords craftsmanship. Let me tell you, Pintrest does not do this place justice. We floated under the lovers arch, swam in the Blue Grotto, and sailed the Amalfi coast as the sun kissed our skin. The experience was like nothing i could have imagined.
Although we spent the majority of our trip to Capri trying to get there, it was worth the empty wallet and the time on public transportation. If i was asked to choose a place to spend the rest of my life, it would be Capri.
