Buena Notte! I am so happy to announce that I am reporting to you from Trastevere, Roma! After a long (and I mean LONG) plane ride we are finally here. Yesterday, I left home at 12:30 from XNA. Luckily for me, there was a professor and 5 other ladies that were headed to Rome with me so I was not alone. After our two hour flight that departed from NWA, we landed in Charlotte, NC. In Charlotte we had a three hour lay over, so a few of the girls and I ate lunch at a small, highly over-priced mexican cantina. Our plane out of North Carolina departed at 6:45pm, although I think it may have been a bit earlier because much of our flight was unoccupied. From 6:45pm Central time to 9:30am Central European time, we were in flight. When the wheels finally hit land, I could not have been more relieved (mostly because I didn't use the restroom for 11 hours).
After we claimed our baggage and went through customs, we proceeded to get on a bus that took those of us at the airport to our apartments. One thing that I can say for sure is that i wish i would have packed less, because it was burdensome trying to wheel a 70 pound suit case over cobble stone. On the bright side however, my apartment is the coziest little thing disregarding the fact that there is very little water pressure and the electricity is limited. But, we have a balcony, and windows that on look the streets below. I share a room with Mikayla; the other double room is taken by Anna and Megan, all of whom are so welcoming and lovely. I've already decided that i'm going to be in good company while I'm here.
Tonight the university took us out to dinner. We ate at a small restaurant just a block from the local piazza. Tonight I ate chicken on a stick (weird right?), bruscetta, and rigatoni. For desert I had the pleasure of overindulging in a plate of fresh fruit and frozen cream. If this continues i'll be 20 pounds heavier when I return to the states. Jett-lag is setting in so for now, it is time for bed. I have to be up bright and early at 9am to take a tour of the Rome Center and see what all the Trastevere area has to offer.
I'll report back soon,
T
